Bird's eye view of the parking sensors?

Hi all,
I just bought a 2010 G37xS anniversary sedan. The other day, while parking into my garage, the rearview camera switched to a bird eye's view of the car, and the words "parking sensor" showed up in the monitor. I have the impression that is happened as I moved the gear from R to D, but can't tell for sure.

Tried 1,000,000 times to replicate, but could not. It's driving me nuts...

Does anyone knows what the hell was that???

Someone else recently mentioned something odd happening with their parking sensors and reverse camera.

I wonder, are our cars becoming self aware? Skynet will be taking over shortly.

If the rear view camera is in a fixed location on the back of your car facing the rear, how could it possibly give you a birds eye view?

Birdseye view requires sensors on the front of the car also.

it happens when lets say, you start going in Reverse and your sensors detect a wall behind. If you put your car on park while the sensors are ringing, that image at times shows up (birds eye view of car with what appears to be an image of the sensors range in both front and rear). I get that all the time when I back my car into my garage and then go into P with those bastards beeping like crazy.

Thanks wlmngtn...

I'll try to replicate with a camera in my hands, so everyone can see what I was talking about. It doesn't stay that way, it kinda flashes that screen, then moves back to the regular screen.

This really has me wondering how close we are to having front proximity sensors!

I've noticed this too as well. Since the camera takes up the whole screen while reversing, when i switch back towards drive/park the screen will switch to a simulated image of the car that shows a proximity range of what your sensors are reading (similar to bmw). If there was an option to access this more frequently that would be great.
