i have a passport 8500. although it is a older model it works great. it will tell you what type signal its recieving and the strength of it. if its recieving 3 different signals at one time it will display each one so the Ka (always a cop) will not be covered up by K or X (almost always automatic doors). it lets me know about the fuzz up to a mile away.

Don't most officers use laser now? I know the radar detectors pick up laser but won't the detector only pick it up right when he shoots it at your car?

I'll bet you're running yours in the stock configuration. I reprogrammed mine using the simple instructions on the website (it's there but kinda hard to find) and it's now quieter than ever in big cities. It still alerts for the real thing just like before.

I just bought a Whistler this weekend off Amazon for $36 LOL and that device worked like a charm with my little test drive over the weekend. Not too sure if it even comes close when compared to V1, but hey, $36 and I got alerted three time about cops in 45 mins driving. That is one good bargain right there.

Just my input.

Happy shopping.

i only see laser on the highway. with laser, it doesnt matter how good the detector is, the cop will know how fast your going as soon as he places it on your car. around town by me they use Ka band and you have a great advantage if you have a good detector against it.

I've never noticed any cops detecting speed on the freeway before. Does this usually happen on wide open roads like going to vegas?
