Is anybody else's Valentine One going off??

My laser band is constantly going off. When I turn the direction of V1 the arrows change, so it's not its fault. It's something towards the front of the car.

Any ideas? the bluetoof? the Navi? home-link?

GiGGaplease Oct 27, 2008 04:00 PM

nope, however, sometimes it just goes off by itself but there is not laser in site.

this radar saved me countless times.

tzarbomba Oct 27, 2008 04:05 PM

Definately.. it paid for itself within months.

Also noticed it doesn't go off when it's up on the visor.

It's just really strange.

Do you have the Tech package?

DiamondGCoupe Oct 27, 2008 04:09 PM

Laser is not something that would be randomly picked up. I have heard others mention this problem with the Tech package but if you don't have the Tech package, try it in a different vehicle. If the problem persists, send it back to be recalibrated. Probably needs to be done every 2-3 years. I know I had to send back my RX-65 about 3 years. Works perfect now.

No, don't have the tech. package. But the V1 works just fine in my beater Maxima. :dunno:

It's probably the LCD causing the false laser alerts. Mine was set off by an old Garmin GPS unit. Try moving the detector away from the LCD screen. You can also disable the laser feature on the V1, this is what I've done, you won't get any advance warning with laser anyhow, only when it's pointed directly at YOUR car and then it's too late if you're going fast enough to warrant a ticket.

It's probably your ICC... if you have it.

Its more than likely how the sun strikes the unit through the windshield. And with the sun falling lower in the southern sky, the angle has changed.

i dont have the valentine but i have the new escort 9500 and it hasnt come into handy yet im sure it will but i really havent come across a cop w a laser...the K and X frequenscys do go off quite often..i live in queens so theres a lot of taxis so im sure it picks that up as well but just wondern if anyone else has the same 1 i have and some imput...sometimes i feel like i wasted 500$

Check to see what's in front of you. I know the GM SUVs always set off my laser alert. Chevy Trailblazer's, GMC Envoy's etc... Whenever they hit their brakes, the red light sets off my V1. I'm guessing anything that will emit the right color frequency of red will set it off. Look for red (ish) stuff directly in front of you or reflecting from somewhere else.

FWIW, this coming January will be my Valentine 1's 9th year of virtually trouble free service. The only thing that I have had to do is swap the power cord because the outer covering was beginning to fray. Still worked just fine, though. Other than that, it acted kinda strange a couple of times, telling me there was radar all around me for like 30 seconds straight. When I realized something wasn't right, I turned it off for 10 seconds and turned it back on to reset it. Otherwise, the best detector I've owned out of multiple Bels, Escorts and other cheap brands.

When you consider the 9500 series detects traps the V1 doesn't even know about I come out with a different leader. The difference in radar detection performance is insignificant in reality. Not detecting speed cameras, red lights and any speed trap you'd want to mark... huge difference. Then there's it's handling of false alerts... no comparison IMHO. Last time I priced them both they were both $499.

For the false laser problem I'm betting it's not ICC, your detector is over or in view of your LCD Navigation display. Move it or block the lower part of your optical sensor with tape. You can test this by just putting your hand over the LCD and watching the laser alert stop. If it goes off when you hit the brakes, if it's mounted loosely that may just change the angle so it's picking up your LCD then.

It's the LCD screen....which is why it goes off when it's mounted on the windshield, and not when it's on the visor. I had my 9500 on a Mike's mount and had the same issues. I ended keeping the stealth cord and putting it back on the suction cup mounts just below the rearview mirror. It's far enough forward now that i don't have any issues.
