BF Goodrich GForce Comp 2 A/S Review
#16
I'm going back and forth between these and the DWS06. I like a good performing tire, but i do a LOT of highway driving (800 miles in a week is not uncommon) and the roads in PA and NJ aren't great. The BFGs win on price as I can get 4 installed at Costco for about $500, but I'm worried about three things: treadwear, noise and ride quality. Am I going to be replacing them once a year? Will the road noise drive me insane on a 200 mile trip? Will the ride quality result in visits to the chiropractor?
For comparison I'm currently on Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZs which were on the car when i bought it and while tyey are decent, they don't really excel at anything. They are also down to 3-4/32 so they are getting replaced either in the spring or the first time we get snow and a can't keep it from oing sideways.
The price and performance of the BFGs is intriguing, and I'd love to get everyones input, especially if you are riding on 225/55r17 tires. Likewise, if you have an opinion on the DWS06 or something I haven't considered, let me know.

UHP tires are not low rolling resistance. If you are coming from a LRR tire, you will probably lose ~1 mpg or so. If that 1 mpg is important to you, go with a LRR grand touring tire. Not quite as sticky in the corners, but better milage and a quieter snoother ride. Super happy with the pirelli p7 cinturato all season plus on my mother's EX. Much nicer ride than the OEM Bridgesones, which were backbreaking on the 19" rims. Car just glides now.

BIG favor. I was heavenly comparing this tire to the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ (Plus). Can way you can take a screen shot of the same rating breakdown from Consumer Reports for the A/S3+? And in possible the DWS06?

Pilot Sport AS3+
DWS 06
The Pilot Sport is their top rated tire with a score of 78. The DWS scored 76. The BFG 74. All 3 were recommended. The BFG is a price tier below the michelin and continental but seems to hit out of its weight class. If you're willing to sacrifice a little refinement, it should perform with the best of them.

I should of bought the Michelin A/S3+ they seem just like an overall better tire. I am really concerned about the noise and ride quality issue. It was just $140 more overall.
The only positive (I guess) is I live in snowy Cleveland Ohio and these seem to get excellent reviews for snow. However the roads with full of potholes are horrible. I'll drive on and see my opinion on the BFG but I believe I should of got the A/S3+

The AS3+ is going to be a better tire. BFG is a mid-priced brand owned by Michelin, so they're not going to cannibalize their own sales. That being said, the AS3+ doesn't come in 225/55r17, so it's out for me. I do have some concern about ride and noise refinement on the BFG, but should note the tires tested by CR were 225/40/18. That's a lot less sidewall to absorb road imperfections.
another recommend option on the CR list is the Pirelli Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus, which might be a good fit, but I'd have to order them from tirerack since no one carries Pirellis. The BFGs i can just do in one shot from costco for $108/ea and $15 install vs $150/ea for the pirellis and a more expensive install.

The Pirelli P Zero All-Season Plus just received revised rubber compound on some of the tire sizes. The 225/50/18 that our cars came with received the revised rubber compound, I saw a few people that loved the revised compound on other car forums but that was before the snow season. I joined these car forums ONLY to ask an update on their thoughts of these tires and specifically their thoughts in regard to snow performance. Both people were not high on the performance of these Pirelli for snow traction.
Here are the forum with the posts:

I came from the stock Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1-A A/S 225/50/18. My car only has 23,900 miles so first new set of tires.
I based my research on overly checking Tirerack comparison reviews and customer reviews and different forum reviews. If I would of saw the Consumer Report breakdown prior to my purchase there is no doubt I would of went with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+. Only thing that was truly holding me back originally is the lack of reviews for winter traction.
I tell you what though, if you had the stock 18" wheels I would have offered you these basically new BFG Comp 2 A/S tires for a price you couldn't refuse.
