iPhone 5S and bluetooth

Does anyone use an iPhone 5S with their M? I just picked up a 2011 M37, and the Bluetooth call quality seems very choppy when I call someone. Now... keep in mind that I have an escort live radar detector connected via Bluetooth as well as the phone is paired for Bluetooth audio streaming as well. I am going to disconnect the radar detector next time I'm in the car to see if it makes a difference. I know Bluetooth doesn't have the greatest bandwidth, but I figured if it could stream audio, it could handle a call and communicate with my radar detector. Of course, I called my local infiniti dealership and they said "the iPhone 5S isn't on the approved phone list for Bluetooth devices."

Just trying to figure out if its a Bluetooth bandwidth issue or an iPhone 5S issue, or an Infiniti issue. Since my car is out of warranty, the dealer said they would have to charge me for any "software update" to the Bluetooth system.

I have problems with people complaining about not being able to understand me clearly. 4S was better but still not great. I'm going to ask for another microphone replacement, but wonder how much of it is the phone. Hard to believe we haven't perfected Bluetooth yet.

Same here. They sound like they are cutting in and out, and they complain that they can't hear me either. I asked the dealer and it looks like they already did the "bluetooth fix" where they replace a microphone and update the firmware.

I have been having similar issues w Bluetooth and iPhone 5S. Not only with streaming music but when talking as well. The music part is EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING!! I only noticed it when I received the dreaded update of IO7. There are times that my music won't play at all until I click the pause play on my cell a few hundred times only then will it acknowledge it... Has anyone else experienced this issue??? If so, any fixes?? I had a car dealer tell me that sometimes cell phones are more advanced in technology than autos. I have a 2012 G37 IPL. It sounded logical to me but I haven't checked into it.

I hate using BT for music, it's always lacking ... just use the USB connection.

I just took my 5C into the dealer for this issue and they stated it was a common issue with iPhone 5's and it wasn't an Infiniti problem.

Yeah, the Bluetooth technology in cars is always behind. If you think about it, a 2011 car will have 2009 technology in it, because they had to design and build the car years in advance to you buying it. Cell phones such as apple or android are constantly receiving updates. Your car however, does not receive any updates, unless you go to the dealer and complain, and even then, they may not have a fix. Car companies do not like troubleshooting Bluetooth issues, and I don't blame them. There are too many phones to deal with out there. Even though Bluetooth is a standard, and it should all "just work"... there are way too many little details that cause things NOT to work.

Infiniti won't help me because my iPhone 5S is not on their "approved and tested" phones. So... they will always say, "its the phone's fault, we haven't tested the 5S yet, so we aren't going to waste our time trying to figure out what's wrong.

I saw this problem in with other car companies. The car companies blame the cell phone companies and vice versa. I can't tell you who is to blame in our scenario... I wish I could... of course that still wouldn't fix our problem.

Like mentioned above, I tend to use the USB connection to play music... for several reasons.. 1.) It displays the album art.. (its stupid, I know) 2.) It charges my phone at the same time 3.) I can interact with my music in more than just "next song." I can go into playlists, sort of artist, etc. 4.) I think the sound is better quality through the usb port. This could be all in my head but theoretically, you should be able to pump a higher audio stream through USB than Bluetooth. Can anyone verify that?

What version you guys running on your 5C and 5S? I have my phone jailbroken, so I am at iOS 7.0.4. I was wondering if the latest iOS fixed any bluetooth problems.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Well, lets pray that when iOS8 comes out in October that they fix it. Until then, I get to drive my $50K car while talking on my $500 phone. Awesome... apparently money doesn't buy you crap!!

Interesting. I wish we knew which version of bluetooth our cars came with. The version of bluetooth plays a role in the quality of the audio. But its hard to believe that a bluetooth signal would be better than a cord... but you never know until you see what the data transfer rates are.

Yeah, I would have to agree, BT is so prone to interference. I have had iPod/iPhone connected to devices via the 1/8" headphone jack and that can be pretty bad (aka AUX inputs). But the USB always outperforms BT in my experience.

i've never been a fan of the audio output from the stock iPhone cable that came with the car. i installed the kinivo bluetooth for music stream, and the audio is definitely louder and has more dynamic range than what i have been getting with the cord. the pioneer 930bt nav unit with bluetooth stream i installed on my 03 explorer sounded 10 times better than what is was getting in the g. i'd been searching for a simple streaming solution for the g and came across the kinivo with the rca adapter and lighter adapter for power. it all fits in the center console and is plug and play. i noticed the difference in sound quality immediately.
