Interior to be Close to Concept??

Autospies blog entry

After writing to Nissan/Infiniti, I eventually came in correspondence with Nissan VP of Global Communications Simon Sproule. I really liked the Infiniti EX concept and wrote to him telling him what should be done for the EX to be a hit. He gave me a bit of early news on the EX. Here is an excerpt of the correspondence:

Dear VP Simon Sproule:

In months to come, I may be looking for a mini SUV such as the
all new exciting Infiniti EX concept!
I really liked the look of the new EX concept at the New York auto show
and might consider one. I passed on the Acura RDX because it doesn't
offer power seats for the front passenger.
Please take note of these suggestions for the new EX:

---I realize that features such as the transparent glass roof will
not likely make production, but PLEASE DO NOT TONE DOWN THE INTERIOR
QUALITY OF THE EX CONCEPT for the production model. The interior design
and quality appearance of the EX concept is totally AMAZING. I will
probably put a deposit in for one if I am assured the production
quality
will be the same as the concept's.

---Critics have always said Nissan/Infiniti always shows great
concepts but that they are always toned down for the production model.
You have not disappointed us with the all new G35, the new G37 and the
new GT-R seems to be the return of 'Godzilla'.
Please DO NOT DISAPPOINT US FANS WITH THE NEW EX CONCEPT!!

---make sure the Around View Monitor and Ambient headrest
illumination make production. I am very, very excited about these
features.

Sincerely,

David
-------------------------------------------------------

Dear David,

Nice to hear from you. regarding the EX. I don't know all the details of final production
but it will have the around view monitor and I am told that the
interior
of the concept is very close to the production car. We have NOT told
the
media yet, but the production car will be shown at a special event in
August this year - so if you can wait, send me a note in a couple of
months and I can get you some details and pictures.

Thanks again for the note - glad to hear that Infiniti is still
attracting you!

Best regards

Simon Sproule

I'm glad to hear that the production interior will be close to the concept's. That interior was b!tchin'. I guess we'll have to wait and see just how close they come.

Great find Alex. If the production interior is close to the concept interior, Infiniti will have a winner on their hands, no question about it.

AGREED!
But it's so dramatically different than the other Infiniti brands it doesn't seem logical that it would be so different, does it?
The G37 concept ended up looking just like the G35...

Exactly. That's why I'm curious to see exactly how close this interior will come to the concept's. Although, the more I look at the concept, the more the interior reminds me of the FX's interior, just improved...vastly.

Look at how different the '07 G Sedan's interior is compared to earlier Infinitis with its blue/white color scheme instead of the amber found in earlier models. Hell the Infiniti-controller interiors in the 06-08 FXs are a big leap forward over the pre-Infiniti-controller ones in the 03-05 models.

^^ Yes... but with the recent releases of the 07 sedan and the G37, it just seems that putting out something SO different would not be probable.
I hope I'm wrong, because that EX concept interior is spectacular... and we'll be looking for something to replace our M soon (end of this year).

Doesn't Nissan/Infiniti always create winners? For the past 5 years, their rise and competition in the Luxury/sport scene has been tremendous. Acura REALLY needs to step it, FWD power and no V8 option isn't really cutting it no more. Infiniti, Lexus, and BMW are running the show...

Chilibowl, I agree with your statement. However, some probably don't. It's a matter of opinion of course. Besides that point, I do think there is no question that the new EX will be contending for the top spot in this segment.

I would hold that comment, until the C class comes out. It might just boot Infiniti out of the competition with the focus back on between Mercedes and BMW. The 07 G35 sedan wasn't that much of a hit as people expected it to be, and we have yet to see what Acura has for us next year. I really believe Infiniti is not yet in the same class as Mercedes, Audi, BMW, and Lexus. The refinement on these three cars is unbelievable, whereas Infiniti and Acura still have room for improvement. I hate my 03 G interior and was hoping the new G35 Sedan would have a crazy interior but when I saw it I felt the lines and feel of the car still didn't match that of BMW.
