So I was thinking about porting an extra upper vq37 mani I have laying around. All z1 does is sand down the openings right?? Sounds easy enough, should anyone think I should try it?? I'm bold enough too. I was going to send my spare mani in to get credit back after buying the z1 ported mani. idk what I should do.

IT shouldnt be to hard I used to do this alot back in the day on my DSM's and old muscle cars. Should take an afternoon and you can buy the porting kit at autozone. You need air tools though, You might be able to get away with and electric drill too

its not that bad, just take your time. the faster you go with the bits, the more the mani melts vs sands.

I have never ported on this particular car, but have done some porting on DSMs as well. Typically, you are just looking for areas with any raised surface that will obstruct the airflow. You are also looking for tight corners or switchbacks where you can streamline the air. Additionally, you want to see if the ports on your intake manifold are as wide as the gasket. So, if you lay the gasket onto the manifold and can see any intake manifold behind the gasket, that is slowing down airflow and could likely be trimmed back.

However, hopefully someone with more experience on these particular cars can chime in and provide some more feedback.

I did like chuckie and ported both a stock and 35HR. Smooth out all the ridges first. Get all your casting lines smooth and transitions smoothed out. I then port matched the lower outlets to the lower manifold and port matched the TB inlets with the TBs (I got ported TBs so there was a lot to take off). Key, like others have said is to take it slow. I used 80; 100; 120; 300; and 600 grit drums and cones to do all the cutting on both a air tool and a dremel. I think in all i spent a couple hours a day over a week doing the work the first time. I had the luxury of having the TBs and upper and lower mani off the car at the time. If you had a weekend I am sure you could easily take your time and do it in one just fine.
