7at BG transmission service from the dealer

Hi All,

I had a question. So My 2013 G37xs sedan is at 56000 miles and I went to Holman Infiniti in NJ and did a service for transmission fluid -s-type, awd service for the fluid in there and power steering fluid. This dealer used BG synthetic fluids for all of these. Im not sure but I always thought the 7at must be service with S matic nissan transmission fluid. I confronterd the dealer about this and they said BG is what they use and they find the cars shift better with it. I wanted some input on what should be done w/ the 7at transmission service. They did the 3 time drain and refill procedure w/ 12 quarts of BG AT synthetic fluid--I hope my car will be ok. so far I drove it after picking it up and so far smooth, time will tell.

Hopefully it'll be fine, from what I heard our transmissions only like Nissan s matic and heard other give issues but never heard anything about BG.

I've been using Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Matic S equivalent and has performed well for 15k miles. There's only a few aftermarket Matic S equivalent fluids on the market, if the dealer is using the BG fluid and has had good results I doubt they'd use it if it went against what Infiniti would deem acceptable.

yup thanks yea hopefully good with the BG product. I was just upset that they put BG without me knowing till the end. I assumed Nissan and infiniti dealers would use genuine s matic. Either way I called corporate to let them know and told them if my tranny craps on me this is on Infiniti since their dealers cant use genuine fluid rather than aftermarket.

each major car dealer is an individually owned franchise. corporate usually has no control who a dealer uses as their bulk oil distrubutor. although corporate would like for the dealer to use factory oem fluids it is hard to enforce. i don't think you have much to worry about because if the dealer put it in as part of their service upsell then they will stand by the product if it fails in a customer's vehicle. there are a lot of transmission fluid manufacturers out there that make atf compatible to matic s. you if dig deep enough in this forum i think theres people vouching for redline, valvoline, and mobil 1 atf.

I am concerned, they used the BG Universal on mine, not the Low Viscosity, which would more match with Nissan S.

Does anyone know the Viscosity of Nissan Matic S?

I do believe I have been getting worse MPG since having my transmission serviced. I might see about getting them to redo it with Nissan Matic S. I will end up losing an hour of my time do to this.

There are at least half a dozen multi-vehicle, low-viscosity ATFs that meet matic-s spec. All of them are fine and will function roughly the same in your transmission. It's not as picky as so.e would have you believe.

I'm currently running valvoline maxlife with no issues. Others on here run Amsoil, pennzoil and others with no issues. Just make sure the back of the bottle lists matic-s

I saw that, but the 315 also says that. The 312 is a higher viscosity, which means more resistance to flow. I swear I am getting worse mpg as well.

I haven't been able to find the Nissan S Matic Viscosity on here, I am guessing it is around 28 at 40c where the BG is 34 at 40c. That equates to 19% more resistance at 40c

Well, as you said, that's a guess, and the cold temperature is not going to be what affects your gas mileage. The difference in viscosity of matic-s and BG universal at operating temperature is <1 cSt

To give you an idea what that means, you'll see about as much difference in gas mileage as switching from 5w30 to...another brand of 5w30

It's in your head

I haven't even seen a listing of the CST for 100C and I haven't seen any Listing for CST for Nissan Matic S.

Matic-S is 6.2-6.5 cSt @100C (based on available used oil analysis, Nissan doesn't publish it), BG Universal is 7.0 cSt@100.

Well I am still going to have them check for any leaks and make sure of the fluid levels. My transmission has been acting a bit weird. Was smooth for about three weeks and then back to its old self.

Has this kick from 1st to 2nd when getting on freeway often and today, I accelerated around a corner from a near dead stop, it went to 5k rpm and felt a bit like it was in neutral. Who knows, maybe she is going out. Most of the time its fine.

Unless "felt like i was in neutral" means the engine free rev'd to 5000rpm then slipped into gear, i doubt it's going out. Might just be your computer adjusting to whatever weird throttle manipulations you've likely been doing as you analyze minute differences in shifting while you're stressing about whether you got the wrong fluid. I've done the same thing after doing mods since i'm very sensitive to minutia. I spend so much time trying to pin down the slight changes that I'm feathering the pedal or blasting down the road at WOT instead of driving normally. 3 weeks later it feels like another person was driving my car. lol

A lot of Infiniti dealerships use BG products, I doubt the stuff is grenading transmissions left and right. If you are going back to the dealership and haven't done so yet, ask them to check and see if there is updated programming for your transmission. I have a 2013 with the latest update and my mother has a 2011 EX. She drove my car and was stunned with the difference. I took her car in for the update and it's much smoother
