What tint % are your windows?
#46
Hey All,
I'm thinking about getting my windows tinted on my g37, and was wondering what % is recommended. Obviously, most lower tints are completely illegal, but if you could provide pics that would be super helpful!
Also, I have a good friend that powder coats the calipers around the inside of your wheel. He is giving me advice saying that if i did that to my car it would look sick. He isnt even going to charge me. Did anyone out there powder coat their calipers with a color? If so do you have any pics?
Thanks in advance!

But with the front windshield letting in so much light it was as if i put 35% all around due to how much sun light was coming in. You could see all the way to the back seats standing in front of the car and standing by the driver/passenger side window you could see the center stack/console. I wanted it darker.
So when i had my clear bra put on i mentioned it to the owner and he offered me a free trial. He suggested i start at 35% (he has it on his Jeep), which is what i wanted, and if i didn't like it he would redo it for free and go the next lightest till i was satisfied.
Ended up 35% was perfect for me. Since the front windshield slants so much the clarity isn't bad at all. It's the norm now. It's not as dark as if the windows were vertically tinted like the side windows. It's not for everyone. But they have different shades as i'm sure you're aware. 50% or 70% might be just enough to make you happy.
All you can see now on my G looking in the front and sides is the top of my steering wheel peeking over the dashboard....

I felt the same way after i slapped 5% all around on mine. I have wheat interior and my G is a DD.

My main concern is that I won't be able to see at night/in the dark. I'm not getting any younger lol

As an addendum, I was watching Judge Judy today where they had a case where the plaintiff made a left turn and hit a car going the other way. The insurance companies assigned 50% liability to both parties but the plaintiff was seeking reimbursement for his half. However, the CHP report noted that the plaintiff had illegal tinted windows that was noted in their report. Judge Judy mentioned this and denied the plaintiff’s claim. And this incident wasn’t even at night.

As an old adversary of illegal tint and having heard so many stories saying “The cops never pull anyone over for illegal tint,” I love this kind of post.

Here's an on-topic question not designed to alienate everyone... if you don't know the tint level, how can we find it out? I've been considering asking my local tint shop. The reason being, New York law is that at least 70% of light is allowed through the sides and windshield, and it's been that way for years. However as of a few weeks ago, it became a required component of the inspection process. (Which means shops all across the state will be scrambling to purchase testing equipment to comply with the new law. Thanks for nothing, Albany.)

As a general rule, people don't care how contemptuous blowhards rationalize self-importance.

I don't have a sticker anywhere. It was tinted in NJ before I bought it and brought the car to NY. Think I'll call the tint shop tomorrow and ask. Thanks, BB.
