its all subjective and preference... and for me..
ill take a manual gearbox any day regardless of all the benefits automatics bring to the table...
its just the connection you have with the car having a manual an automatic cant give you..
this is just a personal opinion of mine having tracked and dragged a number of cars with either one.. both for fun and competitively..
although if im at a level of competition where its the difference.. give me the one that will give me the edge..

The 7AT in our cars is a great AT IMO. I just upgraded mine with a Level 10 bulletproof valve body and Stillen tranny cooler. I run Motul Multi ATF in it. I also have an Ecutek tune. It shifts very quickly, firmly, but still smooth. It downshifts excellent and doesn't gear hunt anymore. It rev matches very well when braking hard. If I put it into DS mode it hold lower gears much longer than before and kicks down a few gears quickly if I brake hard and I do frequently when I can safely because it's fun as all get out!

As for MPG, I typically make it two weeks on a full tank. Usually by the end of the second week, I'm running on fumes. Well, today is the end of two weeks for me and I still have 1/4 tank left!

I paid $866.00 for an e-tune and the kit. Specialty Z EcuTek ProECU Programming Kit - 370Z/G37

Like I said, the one downside to a great powertrain 7AT.

It's sad that you have to spend money to tune the car to get the trans logic correct. Infiniti has released numerous TSB's and they can't seem to get the transmission right. My wife has a 15 Ford Edge Sport and the transmission downshifts instantly, whereas my G37X takes a good bit of time to process a downshift. If we were next to each other and simply went wide open throttle, I'd get walked and wouldn't catch up.

You have to be way to aggressive with the AT to get it to downshift. DS mode does help a bit but I'm looking into getting a throttle controller just for this spirited drives.
My 07 Saab 95 5AT shifted like a dream. I swear the thing knew what I wanted before I did.

I was laughing at you referring to automated manual transmissions as the same thing as a traditional torque converter controlled auto.
Being stuck in traffic isn't a big deal. Do it every day. But I don't talk/text/eat/drink/read when I'm driving so it isn't that big of a deal

to be on topic and for fun conversation's sake:
the 7AT is not quicker than the 6MT
Drag:
Good luck getting a burn out to warm up the tires.
Drift:
No way you're holding a gear or clutch kicking to upset the rear traction.
Track, Time Trial:
The suspension and brakes will lower your corner entry and exit speeds dramatically.
Track, Wheel to Wheel:
Downshift lag in addition to the Track Time Trial issues.
Street:
We can't talk about that here =P

Track, Time Trial: Suspension and brakes are the same in a 7AT Sport as the 6MT
Drift: I agree
Track, Wheel to Wheel: MM mitigates downshift lag vs relying on the computer -albeit the advantage still goes to the MT driver because the time between shift input and shift is quicker. But there is still a matter of driver skill that comes to play
Street: I see what you did there :P

haha kahboom.
in regard to suspension and brakes, if we were talkin about coupes you'd be right
the AT Sport sedan is just really an appearance package
I have the MT sedan, and still quite upset that they didn't offer a clutch pedal with the AWD
