I love it when planning ahead pays off

I'm about to propose early summer and I keep getting threatened with a spreadsheet to track how much I spend on mods when we are married haha. She's considering letting me upgrade to something with an M or AMG badge to meet my car guy needs as long as I leave it all stock. Although she would never notice a tune

Babies and toddlers absolutely love a loud exhaust. I'm totally serious.
Puts them right to sleep.

I had an WRX when my daughter was born. One year of car carrier was enough so I bought an RDX. (For perspective, I am 5'9", weigh maybe 240 and I am not really fat...my other hobby is that I am a lifelong gym rat. It still sucked constantly bending over to get the kid in and out of the car.) It was so much easier to deal with kid...and then kids when the second came along. The first gen RDX was actually pretty sporty...sporty enough that it did not sell well to the mommy demographic. But as soon as both kids could get in and out themselves, sedan shopping commenced.
TX no longer has a tuition lock program (they used to from what I understand from some coworkers). So I just do a 529. Ohio's is supposedly one of the best, at least it was when I was researching a few years back.
College: It's impossible to predict how much money you will need decades from now. We just divided the number of months until the August after the kids graduate into $100K each and started doing that as an autowithdrawal. We will readjust when the kids turn 10 (next month for my oldest). $100K is probably not enough, but the whole point of investing to keep up with inflation, etc. Did not want all the eggs in these baskets anyway. BTW, the number you get when you do what I said is pretty scary if you don't start early. It's over 1000 per month if you wait until they turn 10. Given this is a G37 board and not a Maserati board, I am guessing that is a pretty solid chunk of cheese for most of us. Start when they are toddlers and it is much more manageable.
