Hey look, an actual place to put your coins

So, I got extra time today at work to goof around and started to think what else my sedan needed. The ridiculous ash tray came to mind so I made this out of 6061 today. No more needle nose pliers to get something out of that pocket.

I keep my spare USB charger and eye glass cleaning cloth in there. Coins work as well.

Strange to think that people actually used to smoke in cars and use the ashtray for butts.

I noticed alot of the rental cars I rent no longer have an ashtray.

Well it was an accepted practice to smoke in cars for a long time and still pass between owners. Now you would absolutely destroy the resale of your vehicle. No one wants a car that smells like cigarettes.

I know, it was totally acceptable. I can also recall ashtrays on planes and inside movie theaters on the arms of the chairs. Alot has changed.

Nowadays, even hard core smokers try their dam_est to keep the smell out of the inside of the car. Nonetheless, many of the rental cars I rent smell like stale smoke inside. This is especially true in colder areas where there is little chance of cracking the window to let some of the smoke loose.

haha, i had a coin storage dilemma when i first got the G. unfortunately, the ashtray wasn't good for me since i was using that for my volt meter, plus the thought of trying to cherry pick the coins out of the ashtray wasn't doin it for me. i found this tray accessory that you can get for the G that rests in the center console/arm rest.

"Infiniti 969251BA0A Console Tray" was the title of the ebay buy-it-now auction that i purchased. i paid $10 for it, shipped.

i just put all my change in that tray. it doesn't move around, doesn't rattle or make noises, and it makes it quick and easy to find the correct change i'm looking for.

see pic.. (the tray pic is not of my car, just found it on google images. i don't have a pic handy at the moment)

Interesting. A useful Infiniti accessory that I had previously never heard of....(is it the same Infiniti?)

I wonder if there are others?

I would think the coins would rattle too much loose in the ash tray. My 6MT has a little coin holder slot in the cup holder surround. It will hold nine $1 coins

I use the tray mentioned above. Rattling was an issue until I got some felt, cut it to size, sprayed it with Loc-tite adhesive and applied.

Works great. It's much more quiet now. I also have mailbox and gate keys in there. No sliding around.

I put my coins in a sandwich bag in the center console with other items sitting on top of them as rattling drives me crazy as well. Note that this works well here in CA because we do not need to access a coin stash every 15 mins on the HWY to pay tolls, as you would out east and in TX.

An excellent point.

I don't use it much for coins since I use an EZ-Pass transponder for tolls. But it's handy for keys, pocket knife and the usual USB BS.

No tolls in San Antonio, the 7th largest city in the country. The tolls I have used in TX are awesome(if a toll could be): camera snaps a pic and they mail you a bill if you don't have a toll pass. Coins and slowing down aren't needed. Which is nice when the speed limit on the toll road is 85 mph.

On the 6spd. we have a little slot for coins next to the cupholders. It is even lined in that velvet-like liner they put in the center console and glove box so they don't rattle.
