7AT Rear diff swap from non-Sport to Sport

Hi there. Did a search and saw a few mentions of this, but still not completely clear what all it entails. I am looking to go from 7AT non sport to 7AT sport.

Are there any major gotchas to consider, additional parts to buy, or is it fairly straightforward??

Thanks much

depends on what you're looking to do... adding VLSD / steeper gears. purchasing a 2008 G37S auto rear end would give you VLSD and 3.692 gears for the least amount of work and most bang for the buck. the yoke must match to have this work. search for threads with pics and you'll understand...

Thank you for the info. The one thing I saw mentioned was regarding cruise control not working following a swap, but I think it was going from AT to MT diff?
Also, in terms of compatibility, I have a 2011 sedan, am I better off looking at a 2010-2013 part?

Thanks again

You have two choices. You can go with a Carbon driveshaft that's gonna cost a little over 1k or you can get two 08' driveshafts ( one mt and one at , I paid just under 300.00 on ebay. ) Reason being your driveshaft doesn't bolt together at the center and you need the slip yoke at the front from the AT and bolt the rear section of the MT to it. The switch will set off the P0500 code for speed sensor but it can be turned off with Uprev.

Probably a good idea to wait till I'm done with mine and I'll do a writeup. I'm set with a hard install date of October 17th. Problem is that I've been having bad thoughts. I had in mind to get a set of wheels that week also at a little over 1500.00 considering I'm moving the rear tires to the front and running a 285 in the back. But.......... I started thinking I could get a Carbon driveshaft for 1k, put the 285 on the stock rear wheel and be done. No bling , all zing. I'm still deciding.

Good info. How much of this is needed if I go from AT diff to an AT VLSD diff?
Or am I still missing something (which is entirely possible)

To AT ?? If you mean MT , all I did was get the diff on Ebay , the two driveshafts , some whiteline bushings and I flashed uprev last week. Not including Uprev I'm in under 800.00 .

BTW if you meant 7AT VSLD I'll sell you mine as soon as I take it out for 300.00 plus you ship or pick up.

Yup, talking about 7AT VLSD Diff. I realize there are more meaningful options out there, but I think this would be sufficient, assuming a swap from non vlsd to vlsd diff isn't complicated (preferably bolt-on)

It's bolt on but for all its worth if I were gonna swap I'd go all the way. This is kinda like going to the parking lot at Disney and calling it a day. You're already there , might as well go on in.

Funny, point taken though. With that said, going from 7AT to 7AT-VLSD, any codes to worry about, or losing cruise control?

I can't say 100% but given the only difference is the VSLD there shouldn't be anything at all. If not buying on ebay get one that's close enough to go get if shipping isn't free because the diff is a heavy bastard. You'd think it was a diesel truck part if you didn't know any better.
