Elevator is something else. Before 9/11 I was stuck in high floors in a WTC elevator. No biggie. I don't know the statistics of how many elevators actually fall to the ground, but I don't think many in well maintained buildings...which is virtually 100% of retail office space in Manhattan.

There is much more at stake sitting in an aircraft having avionics land the plane without a flight crew in the flight deck.

Google already has said self-driving car. There are self driving trains. Still less at stake than having an aircraft fall from the sky due to a computer or mechanical malfunction without a flight crew to intervene.

If anyone's looking for details on the 7 speed "torque convertless" AT in the hybrid:

The planned turbo four-cylinder engine will come from the Renault-Nissan Alliance's technology partnership with Daimler. Infiniti will receive an engine derived from the engine used in the Mercedes-Benz C-class.
The current MB M271Evo engine in the C Class is a direct injected 1.8L turbo producing 201 HP/229 TQ. It says the new Q50 engine will be "derived from" that so it'll be interesting to see what modifications are in store for it.

Closer look at Mercedes

So if they are planning on changing the engine in 2 years, would it even be smart to buy the outgoing 3.7 engine?

This really confuses me on what they are doing here, unless they plan to keep the 3.7 hybrid, the non hybrid 3.7, and just add the turbo MB engine as an additional option?

Until we know what is replacing the 3.7, highly doubt its the 4cyl, its hard to say.

The very first sentence of the quoted article reads:
Infiniti will expand the powertrain options on its highest volume sedan to include a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a clean diesel for Europe.
I can't understand the confusion about that. And to limit further confusion, there is no 3.7L hybrid. The Q50 will have continue the current 3.7L VQVHR found in the G, add the 3.5L VQ hybrid currently in the M hybrid, and in 2 years add a variant of the 1.8L turbo I4 now in the C Class Mercedes as well as a clean diesel initially to be offered only on European models for now. The diesel may possibly be offered here later - "We're reflecting on the U.S. market," said JdN.

Hope this helps.

The BMW 3 series will also get a de-tuned 2.0 T in the 3 series (181 hp I believe). That is in addition to the current 2.0 T and the 3.0 T 335. This sounds like the new Q will have a similar 4 cylinder lower end model.

I completely agree, I was also hoping for a 3.0 Turbo. My lease is up in December of 2014, I suppose I'll consider the Hybrid engine at that point.

Any chance of the hybrid coming in AWD? I'd love to go back to RWD but our winters stink.

Oh wait, the Hybrid is only RWD? Crap...looks like if I stay w/ the G (Q), it'll have to be the 3.7V6. Great engine, but needs an updated transmission.

Why's everyone jumping to conclusions too soon? Did they anywhere mention that a TT 3L was NOT an option?

both powertrains 3.7L NA and 3.5L hybrid with come in RWD and AWD.

expect the hybrid to be a beast its like having instant torque which the VQ37 needed in the low range.

Weight of the Hyrbid RWD I am guessing will be in the high 3800lbs with the battery weight right behind above the Rear Wheels making it very balanced.
