Over the weekend, a friend of mine put a duct tape on my passenger front seat. It was a hot day, and the duct tape itself got soft. She didn't know that I try to keep my car clean.

Now, as a result, the duct tape residue stays there! It looks and feels like glue, grey, on my black leather seat :-(

Any advice on how to remove it from the leather?

I guess we don't have the same GOO GONE formula here in Canada.


I used many time that spray bottle and what a total crap for me, it was as effective as spraying water.
You can also try with a small amount of WD40 then clean with a leather cleaner

WD40 definately works but I wouldt risk getting the smell of it in the seats. If it gets in the perforations, good luck getting rid of the odour.
If GOOGone wont do the trick (it should) try a nice scented bug and tar remover.
Regardless of what you use...follow it up with a good leather cleaner/conditioner like Lexol or Meguiars.

I would be very careful with the Goo Gone as it pretty powerful stuff. I worry about taking the natural oils out of the leather. We should have one of the professional detailer's chime in.

Does GooGone also work on duct tape residue on paint(exterior door)?
Does it eat into the clearcoat or paint?

You might try 3M Adhesive Remover. It is solvent free. It comes in a spray can. I got it at Walmart. It will not harm paint or vinyl, don't know about leather. It is a citrus based product. Make sure it says citrus base on the can, because 3M sells another adhesive remover that is solvent based.

I don't know how this would affect leather, but last weekend I used rubbing alcohol to remove duct tape residue from the paint on the roof of my SUV. I tried a lot of stuff and rubbing alcohol worked very well. I had applied duct tape to the paint to protect it from damage when I used the roof rack to transport some matresses for my son who was moving.

Bug and tar remover will work and its made for car exteriors.

remember to apply leather conditioner after Goo Gone!!! That stuff will take out the nature oil in the leather too....
