Clicking noise when turning the steering wheel

Hello all,

2011 G37 Sedan 6mt. I have been hearing a strange noise and I am trying to figure out if it is normal or if something is wrong with my G.

Steps to reproduce:

Park vehicle on a flat level surface with wheels facing straight ahead.
Turn off engine
Engage parking brake.
Set gear shift into park or put 6MT into gear.
Tap start button once, to allow the steering wheel free movement without lockup.
Slowly turn steering wheel 1 or 2 degrees to the left, then repeat by turning to the right.
Do this a few times, pay attention to a clicking type sound that is heard from somewhere near where the steering rack connects to the steering column.

Does anyone hear any clicking sounds or other unusual noises? I've looked at a few other cars, and in the case of the G the noise seems a bit excessive and almost binding.

Good thing I posted.... would you mind scanning in your work order so that I can reference it when I go to the dealership?

I need to listen to your car. I can barely hear it. Its so subtle. I can only barely hear it when the car is not running.

I have this same exact problem. Dealer replaced all parts related to steering but it did not resolve the issue. Then they were able to reproduce it on another new 6MT sedan on the lot. At this point, they claimed that it is by design. I hope Infiniti corporate creates a TSB for this.

It's not normal. On my 08 it was what is called the "clock spring". It was replaced on warranty.

I wonder if any other 2011 G37S 6MT Sedan owners are having this issue. It's just not right that the car makes this sound.

Mine is a 2011 also. Just this morning going in to work with everything turned off(radio etc..)and going slow I heard that same noise. Have an appointment next week to have it looked at. I'm going to make a note of that work order that was posted.

Funny this thread should pop up just when it happened!
