Engine Air filter
Just wondering if it is normal to have to replace both engine air filters about every 8-10k due to excessive blackening/burning of the filters.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Just get (2) of these; Amazon.com: K&N 33-2399 Panel Air Filter: Automotive

I think it's more like around 20k-30k miles instead. Refer to the driver's manual for that, but it's definitely not that soon. Just buy a set of aFe or K&N filters and you'll be better off.

How will the K&N filters resolve the issue of the blackening/burning of the filter. Won't the K&N's just get as burnt as the other filters?
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problems, or is it a symptom of a larger issue with the engine.

i dont believe they get burnt, just dirty.
k&ns are washable and reusable. gives better airflow with one of the best filtration next to stock papers
btw, i rotate my filters abt once every 7.5k or 10k miles. the dirtyness tends to get concentrated on one end. dunno why.

Air filters don't get burnt at all, it's just darkening from the dirt in the air that they filter out. It's not a problem with your car, it's supposed to happen and thus completely normal.
How many miles you can go between changes has a lot to do with the air where you drive. The more polluted or dusty it is, the more quickly they need changing. If you drive down a dirt road regularly you'd be amazed how quickly they get dirty. Premium maintenance schedule suggests to replace them every 15K miles. Personally I check them every 3 months or so. They tend to get dirtier at the bottom (as mounted) so if they are getting a little dirtier there I brush off the loose dirt and debris and blow them off with compressed air and flip them (top to bottom). I generally change them every 10 to 15K. They're not expensive ($10 each) or difficult to change.

For what it is worth; the K & N filters were cleaned on my 1985 Toyota MR-2, 1990 Acura Integra GS-R, and 2001 Acura CL-S every 30,000 miles with no problems. They could probably have gone the 50,000 miles that K & N says, but heck you have to have something to do on a Saturday!
