Clutch Slave cylinder replacement

Does the transmission have to come out to replace the clutch slave cylinder? What about the clutch master cylinder?

The CMC is on the firewall. The CSC is "in" the tranny.

I've replaced the master about 4 times. 2 on mines and 2 on my buddies. First time took me over 6 hours, after that took only 2 hours. Biggest PITA is getting the master out. Clearance is very tight and getting the brake booster out of the way gives you more clearance. Also the last bolt in the dash by steering is a pain.

Thanks for all the replies! I just picked up my 08 g37s last week and I'm already having to take it in to get fixed. I was quoted several prices with several different replacement parts, but no one offered or is even considering a stronger aftermarket CSC.

Csc

I did the stronger aftermarket slave cylinder on my 09 g37s. I paid $300 for the part and had someone install it for $500 (yes, it is in the transmission). 6 months later had the same issue, but this time it somehow leaked hydraulic fluid into the clutch and ruined it. I then discovered Zspeed CMAK kit. Here is the link http://www.zspeedperformance.com/. I ended up paying about $1,300 for a stage 1 clutch and the clutch movement alteration kit. The labor was still $500. The system works great, and if you by any chance ever need to replace the slave cylinder again it can be done at home without removing the transmission. I would suggest looking into this.

It moves the hydraulics to the outside of the transmission for quick easy maintenance. It come with a fork and a throw out bearing. Look at the pictures online and you will get a better understanding.

Thanks a lot for the insight! Im going to look into this, I just hope my mechanic has no issues installing it. Where is your stage 1 clutch from?

I bought the clutch, flywheel, and CMAK kit from zspeed online. The cmak kit is pretty easy to install. My mechanic only charged me $100 (an hour) to install it, and $500 for the install on the clutch and flywheel. Hopefully you won't need the clutch and flywheel, but trust me, I wouldn't waste any money on a "stronger" csc.

How are you liking the stage 1 clutch? Is there any particular reason for why you chose a stage 1?

I forgot to mention the clutch is made by zspeed. I chose it because I after spending that kind of money I wanted some a little more heavy duty, and I live in Houston where there is a lot of traffic, and I didn't want something to stiff. I'm not sure if it's the clutch/flywheel, the CMAK kit, or the combination of both, but there is definitely an improvement on the performance. I love the setup I have right now.

The stock set up works for me. Just turned 91K on a 2008. I believe if you read information on zspeed website they mention that the CSC failures were on units installed with aftermarket clutches.
