I just picked up a 2011 G37xS coupe and need new tires. The stock tires are 225/45/19 front/rear and just seem too narrow for this car. I am looking to put a little more rubber on the stock 8.5" stock wheels and believe I have the right size picked out.

I want to put Pirelli P Nero Zero All Seasons on in 245/45/19 front/rear. This way I can keep the thicker sidewall and get some more rubber to the road. The difference in diameter VS stock is only 2.5%. I am lead to believe that anything under 3% is ok, correct?

I am stock height and do not plan on lowering the car. Will there be any rubbing with this setup?

Stick with the factory rolling diameter or within 1%, especially for the AWD system. Maybe shoot for 255/40R19

TireRack even has your preferred all season Pirelli tire on clearance in that size, for only $140 each (almost $200 cheaper than 245/45/R19 and within 1% rolling diameter):

the 3% is for the difference between the front and rear size and the VDC tolerates
a difference close to 0% difference front and rear is best for the AWD system
if you go with the same tire size all around the both systems are all good

i suggest going with 245/40/19 all around, that what i did on my xS coupe and my speedometer actually became more accurate compared to GPS

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like I'll stay away from the 45 series sidewall. Does anyone know if the 255/40/19 will fit front/rear without rubbing on a stock height car?

The diameter difference is actually better on the 255 at 0.22% vs -0.99% for the 245. The 255/40 is is actually about $200-$250 cheaper fire a set of 4 than the 245 as Ryne pointed out.

255/40 is just fine on an 8.5", you'll have zero issues w/ fit and AWD compatibility

Thanks! I know in the rear there's plenty of room between the inside of the tire and the suspension components but wasn't sure about the front. With that extra width of the tire, just wanted to make sure that the inside of the tire wasn't going to rub on any suspension components without needing spacers.

NICE!! Now I'm thinking of going 255/40/19 next time I need summers. Going to stick with 225/45/19 on my winter set.

Price actually just went down today on the Pirelli 255/40/19 tires to $123 per tire. Just ordered a set of 4 for a total of $561 with shipping for the G37xS. Can't beat that for good all season 19" tires!

Hey guys I also have the '11 g37xS coupe and I was gonna get new tires also... I put the car into tirerack and the G-MAX As-03 was listed as a fit... Its size is 225/45ZR19 though. I see you guys listing 255/40/19, I don't know anything about tires so would this tire work?

Either of those sizes will work on your 8.5" rims, the 255s will fill your fender wells nicely and give your G a more planted feel & stance, the 225s will cut through snow better, depends what you're wanting from your tires.

Ok that's what I figured. Thanks blnewt! I'll probably go with the G-Max's cuz I heard good things and I'm in a pretty snowy area.

Sorry to resurrect this, but I'm looking to do the exact same setup as you and was wondering if you had any on-car pictures? I'm curious how the extra 30mm of width compared to stock looks.

I have the IPL with the same 225/45/19 up front and I can tell you that when I put 15 mm spacers on to give it a more aggressive look that the handling and steering did suffer so that's why I took them off the front wheels. Just have them on the rear. The steering got heavier and the car wasn't as eager to make turns. Looked good but it didn't out way the negatives. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I don't think a wider tire would have the same effect as spacers. With a 15mm spacer you're moving the wheel center away from the suspension by 15mm. On the other hand, a wider tire is symmetrical and would keep the same wheel center, just with extra rubber on the road inside and outside the wheel.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone who put on 255s up from feel the steering suffers.
