SEL maybe because of gas?

Hi Guys,

Asked my little bro to fill up the G for and guess what he put in? You guessed it regular instead of premium. Anyway after a day of riding the SEL came on I took it to dealer next day and got code P0300 with nothing else. Mind you the car does not seem to be riding "hard" at least not that I have noticed yet.. I will try to empty the tank and refuel using premium but my question to you guys is I want to use this Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner 10003, how much of this bottle should I mix in? All 30oz or half or?

Amazon.com: Lucas 10003 Upper Cylinder Lubrication & Injector Cleaner 32 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Lucas 10003 Upper Cylinder Lubrication & Injector Cleaner 32 oz.: Automotive

Thanks in advance!

SEL? You mean CEL (Check Engine Light)?

A minute after posting this, I see someone write "Service Engine Light". Not the proper term but okay. There is a service engine notification on the display, but that shouldn't be used interchangeably with the CEL on the gauge cluster.

I see a lot of mis-used terms on this site.

The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs.

Possible causes:

- Faulty spark plug (s)
- Faulty ignition coil (s)
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s)
- Intake air leak
- Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coils harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinders compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure

Just like most things in life, I don't think you will find your answer at the bottom of a bottle.

The 87 "could" have fouled up a spark plug causing the misfire...However the ECU should adjust for 87 fuel. You can use it just not all the time...I'd drive it till you can fill up with premium. Then give it another tank of premium & see if your problem goes away.

Uhm, this is just a WAG, but why not follow the instructions on the label?

Well, if you're going to get technical about it, the term that Infiniti uses is actually "MIL" (Maintenance Indicator Lamp), and when it illuminates the words "Service Engine Soon" appear.

I too prefer CEL, but you'll find that there are many variations of it used across various forum boards. Wuhduhyagonnadoo?

Been using regular 87 since December 2005 when I purchased my first 06 G35
Traded it in at 171796 miles and my current 2012 G37S has never seen a drop of anything other than 87 octane

Never had any issues

You may have a problem but it is not 87 octane in your tank unless there is water in it

Good to hear Telcoman.

Here is a list of those cars that RECOMMEND but do not REQUIRE Premium gas.

If you look carefully at those lists, you'll see instances where the same exact engine in a later model year is listed as required, and then where the same basic engine, but used in a different model is listed differently too. I just cringe where I see a performance model with a turbo'd engine listed on the recommended list.

I ran Regular gas in my 2006-G35 for 7 years and not one issue.

I have been running Regular in my 2011-G37 for 3 months, no issues at all.

**sigh**

Please observe that this is just your opinion, as many of us would regard reduced engine performance as "an issue".
