Carbon Fiber Hood questions!
Hey all, kinda new to the site and had some quick questions about carbon fiber hoods. I have an 08 G37S, black obsidian.
I'm looking at hoods, not really for aesthetics, but for functionality. I would most likely get a CF hood that's the same as the stock one.
My question is this: Does the CF hood chip and scratch like a normal painted hood? I do alot of highway driving, and you know, stuff on the road kicks up and I see little nicks and chips all over the hood. I'm assuming the CF hood is not impervious to this, but is it less noticeable?
Also, I live in Florida, lovebug capital of the world (thanx UofF), I'm also guessing that the lovebugs won't eat the CF hood like it does paint. Anyone know for sure? Thanx in advance!

Yea, Lovebugs are fabulous little creatures that were brought to this country by the University of Florida to kill mosquitos, they then "escaped" and flourished. They are attracted to heat when they are mating and will fly low to the ground on the roads. They then of course splatter all over your car, and their blood is acidic and will eat the paint off your car if it isn't cleaned. Great stuff!

that just seems like a ton of money for functionality... nothing wrong with doing it if it comes out ok and the bugs dont get it but that seems too high maintenance

If you're looking for functionality you'll be disappointed. The OEM hood is aluminum and that makes it pretty light already. You'll save 2 or 3 pounds at most by going CF. It will chip and scratch just like anything, I highly recommend you have it clear coated or it will look like crap in 5 months. I have a seibon CF hood and I'm fairly happy with it, the reason I say fairly is because the weave is a nice 2x2 twill but fitment is not perfect.
