Intelligent Key Battery already discharged

Bought my car 11/08/07...7900 miles thus far....and already getting a indicator on my dot matrix display indicating that that it's approx. half way discharged! According to the manual, I'm supposed to replace the battery.

I was told that the charge was supposed to last about 3 years. Has anyone had this same issue? Infiniti says it just needs a simple $7 watch battery...but I'm just a little irritated that it's already discharged after 9 months.

My G37 will be a year old in a few weeks and I do not have this issue. I would start using the other IK and see if the same thing happens. Perhaps you just had a bad battery in the one.

I believe inserting the intelligent key in the IK port will allow the car to be started when the IK battery is dead but it won’t recharge it.

To replace the battery the manual (page 8-21) says to insert a flat-blade screwdriver wrapped in a cloth into the tiny slit at the base to separate the two halves and there it is.

I've had the same thing for over a month and I took delivery on 11/1.

BTW, am I the only one who finds the display confusing? I can't tell if I'm 25% charged or 75%

You probably just got a bad battery. Stop worrying about it. Take it to a dealer and they should replace it for you under warrenty.

^ No really, that's exactly what my vendor told me when I was buying the car, and I did beleive him until I finally read the manual and saw no mention of this, then I just used the Logic... if it was to re-charge the battery, where are the contact points...?

That's what my dealer told me too.. Never put the key in the dock or ever looked through the manual to see if it was true or not...

Yeah...it's a bit annoying. I guess I could just replace the battery....but will probably just stop by the dealer, have them replace it, grab a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, and be out.

They mentioned that I probably just got a bad battery...but damn...never had to replace a battery with any other key remotes (viper) on my old cars.

Funny thing is....is that the dealer told me that leaving the key in your pocket CONSERVES the battery as opposed to pressing the buttons on the intelligent key to unlock the car. Makes me wonder how much sooner it would have discharged had I used it the old school way!

What is this dot matrix display you are referring to?
