I'm not saying he doesn't know his stuff, or how to tune ECUs, just that the examples given were poorly chosen in the first post for the subject at hand.

Bringing this thread back. Curious if there have been updates to UpRev to match the features offered by EcuTek. UpRev is an hour away from me which is why I ask.

I get my EcuTek tunes done remotely and no regret. Even with the new Uprev features, it is still behind in terms of tuning ability. Doesn't match EcuTek with it's full parameter control of VVEL.

il definitely be going ecutek sometime next year after my quaife or waetrac install.
the new ecutek obd controller (which costs about $350) can let you change things like ecutek traction control adjustment on the go and some more features that uprev is lacking. its always better to do it once, do it right.
im hoping once i do the lsd swap, my cruise control still works, if not it seems ecutek can get it working again (depends on tuner of course)

ECUTEK is still better IMO, way better with the throttle hijack and being able to launch the auto's!

BTW selling mine, pics and FS thread will go up tonight. PM if interested.

^^^Well I missed out on yours but ended up finding another on the bay. Will save about $100 doing it this way Seb's on vacation through the end of the year so I'll be tuning with him after the first of the year. Got the laptop in today and a cable will be here some time next week.

You can use ANY ECUTek cable made for any car. You don't need to purchase one with a license, you can get that through Seb or your tuner of choice. The OBD ports are all the same. I confirmed this with Seb, ECUTek and another master dealer near me.

No worries at all! I'm actually still debating going with a local tuner as I'll be able to actually see the results since I've dyno'd there before and we'll start off with dyno run to begin with.

My big concern going locally is that if it's all dyno tuning, does he work on drivability, transmission parameters, traction control, etc...or is he just tuning for peak power?

With Seb, I'll get all the bells and whistles but I don't want an increase in throttle response causing a placebo "yeah I have more power" effect. I won't have those before and after runs with a dyno printout. Being a former tuner myself, it's very frustrating to not possibly have both from one tuner.

I need to start asking a few questions.

Anyway, the ECUTek kit finally arrived today and I did a ROM dump to ECUTek as it wasn't supported. Should have something within five days. I also updated all the programs and drivers associated with ECUTek.

One question...since I don't have a license yet, I'm assuming I can't datalog any parameters with just the cable and program? I noticed there was no "window" to actually select what I wanted to log nor any screens to show the logs. I also considered, since the ECU needs a new calibration from ECUTek to work, that I can't do anything until I have that new file.

I believe you will need the licence to log the ECU, right now there is no way to connect the software to the ECU.

I have talked about this before, but Seb tuned my car on the dyno also. I have a shop that I use and they do not tune G's, pretty much a american car shop, some Mini's but no real imports. If you can find another shop just rent their dyno, it'll cost pretty close to the same but you get all the benefits from Seb, his tune and a dyno sheet also . For me it was worth it as the shop gives me a pretty good discount on the dyno rates( been going there for 5 years). After the dyno you will drive the car on the street and get some logs, Seb will dial it in 100% and then set up the throttle hijack and traction tables.

Either way the tuner should road test the car after being on the dyno, but you know that being a tuner. Now a days lots of guys do remote tunes "Street" and then hit the track to get WHP #'s. Pretty much what I did too. I never got to run Seb's updated tune with my headers at the track but I can assure you it was faster than the 13.5@ 105 I ran before. The 13.5 @ 105 translated to about 302 WHP.

Sebs updated tune with headers dyno'd 314 WHP, but felt like more than that and was with timing issues :/, after he got the timing issue resolved the thing just ripped! just never got to test it. Now the car is gone

I did consider that. I just need to check with JMS to see if they do anything beyond the dyno tune. I have, I believe, at least three dyno shops in the area, all want about the same amount, $125 for three runs kind of deal.

Ok.... with UpRev's updated ( https://www.myg37.com/forums/ecu-tun...ate-today.html ) , how do these two (ECUTeck / UpRev) now compare? Did UpRev's update make them Better/Equal/Almost As Good?????

I'm still leaning toward ECUTeck, but would like to hear from those who know way more about both of these than I.

Looks like UpRev is 600rpm intervals which is acceptable but not great. ECUTek looks to be 400rpm increments.

I'd also like to know if Uprev has a temperature dependent compensation table for fuel and/or timing, traction control, and ability to convert to speed density. Does it keep the safety checks in place?

The apparently glaring big advantage with UpRev is the ability to tune yourself and now that it can control timing and VVEL, it's that much closer. It's really hard to find a point by point feature set for UpRev and you have to do a lot of searching around on ECUTek's page to nail everything down. It looks like ECUTek still has an overall advantage in terms of how deep you can dive into various tuning parameters.

The ECUTek traction control is pretty decent if that matters and it still seems like it offers a bit more overall but mostly for the tuner. The new Bluetooth thing is nice but overpriced by about 200%.
