Successfully tackled this project this weekend. Disconnected the negative cable from the battery, fully cleaned the TB by moving the butterfly valves, cleaned the MAF sensors, put it back together and runs like a dream. Also put the Takeda CAI in as well which was a pain in the a** but that's a story for another day.

At first start up, RPMs where around 2k, but after warm up they dropped to around 800. Took the car out for a couple runs and now my idle is smooth as butter around 600. Car feels great!! I was worried that I would have to do the idle relearn that others had experienced but I think im safe, car runs beautiful. No CEL either.

Add another success to this thread. I have about 53k miles on the car. I followed the OP instructions, including moving the butterfly valves and did not disconnect the wiring harness. After re-install I had the initial high idle which quickly settled down to about 900 RPM. Then the idle dropped to normal after about a mile.

I didn't have much of an issue before I did this work, occasionally the idle would drop down to about 500 RPM and quickly recover. Now it is always steady at 600 RPM and launch is smoother. It is also easier to drive the car slowly off the line. That's not the reason I bought this car but for those days I can't avoid stop-and-go traffic it will be better.

Are you replacing the o-ring as a precautionary measure? I did a TB service on a '04 grand prix about 2 or 3 years ago. It too used an oring. The tb came off without injury to the oring.

To add to this, very few members here have replaced the o-ring. It comes off in great shape for almost everyone. I have cleaned my throttle bodies once before and they looked fine. I'll be cleaning them again soon and will not be replacing them.

Im having some issues that I have not found a remedy for. My guess is that I need a new TB.

Attempting to clean my TB(08 6MT G37s) I was not able to remove the screws holding the TB in place.(broke 2 screw drivers) so I ended up cleaning the side that the intake connects to. I've done all the relearns and even removed battery for sometime. Also, I did move the damn "Butterfly valve". SIgh.

After a day or 2, my idle would be normal(give or take 650)--does not go up or down, but it would be constant and seem normal. The care drives fine for 20 or so minutes. Then randomly, the RPM would "hang". By hang, RPM gets stuck at 3k plus and wouldnt come down for several seconds. At times, it would start low and go up by itself---without my foot on throttle and on neutral.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you are using the correct allen wrench to remove the bolts and not a screwdriver. Try getting them off and clean behind the valve as it might be getting stuck slightly open. Also I would recommend you to very carefully, clean you MAF sensors.

Yup. Made sure that the tip is tan allen. A regular wrench, I just couldn't get enough leverage on it. Also, I have cleaned the MAF sensor. I'm hoping to get the whole TB off so I can get the other side cleaned up. So far, I haven't had any luck breaking 2 screw drivers. The handle actually broke off on both.

Spray alittle PB blaster on those TB bolts. Wouldn't want you guys breaking those off--would suck. It took some leverage to get mine off but I was just using an allen wrench, you could benefit by using some sort of 3/4 ratchet wrench with allen sockets.
