MTF and differential fluids are (usually) the same. ATF and MTF is completely different.

Gear 300 is meant to be used in either or, but more commonly used in differentials.

For fluid purposes, the stock differential on the G is not a limited slip. You're basically paying extra for something you won't be using if you get the 90PA; the 90PA is formulated for clutch type LSDs.

Gear 300 is for viscous coupling (VC), helical (torsen), and SureTrak LSDs. It will NOT work in clutch types.

Great write up. As an added precaution (I always worry about what could happen) I always loosen the FILL plug before I loosen the drain plug. I worry that it's possible that I'll drain all the fluid out and then I won't be able to get the fill plug out, then be really screwed.

Not to crap on the thread but friction modifier needs to be added to the differential or it wont lock as well or at all.

Amsoil specifically mentions that the friction modifier additive needs only be used if you experience differential chatter. I haven't as yet in the past 23K miles since the change. Seems to be locking just fine in my experience.

I had an 04 and changed it with Motul and wasn't locking much at all after or sometimes not at all. I didn't know Amsoil works like that.

I know what you meant here, but this was a bit confusing the first few times I read it...

2. Place the drain pan underneath the drain plug and remove the transmission drain plug. The drain plug shown is on the rear of the differential housing at the bottom. Let all the fluid drain from the transmission. I set the car down off the jack stands to let the fluid fully drain. A lot more come out when I lowered it.

3.Per the FSM, the washer is to be replaced each time you service the transmission (Nissan PN 11026-4N200).

Good catch. Changing it now. Thanks.

Copy/paste=evil if you don't pay attention to changes.

Thanks for the write-ups, btw! This and the transmission oil change look almost as easy as changing the motor oil. I'm thinking this will save me a few hundred bucks when the time comes to do these services.

Do you have a pic of the location of the fill plug?

You can see it in the first photo. It's on the right side of the diff at the top edge of the picture.

Thanks. I saw that, just wasn't sure if it was it or not.

All LS differentials MUST use friction modifier.
GL5 is only for the gears and bearings, modifier is for the clutch plates.

AMSOIL - SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Lubricant 75W-140 (SVO)
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive.
