Sound system upgrade

Sound system upgrade
Hey,
I came to the conclusion that the sound in the G37s Coupe w Bose and Navigation was far from enough for me. I'm now looking into changing that. I got some advice and did some research and this is what I have come up with so far
Amp: Alpine pdx5 (Unsure, No cooling fan but fits well)
Door speakers: Kenwood Excelon KFC-X1730 6-½" 2-Way
Sub: boxology enclosure w Rockford Fosgate P3SD210 sub
Let me know what you think of these picks and what you would change if any thing. Im trying to avoid losing all my trunk room so a full box is not an option.

sounds like a slippery slope of money and frustration.
The last time I upgraded a Bose sound system was in my RSX and even that was not as complicated as the G and I spent almost $2k.

I dont think starting a new thread would be worth it so, as far as 6 1/2 component speakers goes the choices i made in OP have been bashed. Any brands other than kenwood(Which i thought was a good brand but I'm no speaker buff) that will improve the sq over the stock bose sq and not break the bank>? (I'm not throwing a party out the back of my car)

People bashed you by PM? I din't see any bashing in this thread. I have seen many threads about battery issues, which makes me think that the OEM alternator can't handle a bigger load.
I think the Bose is an ok system and doubt that I could upgrade it well, but I commend your efforts. Good luck with it.

The problem with Bose systems or any "fancy factory premium stereo" used in cars isn't just the crappy paper cone speakers they use. It's really the amp and equalizer that is built into the system as a set. There isn't a lot of info on the G, but if you search Acura or BMW or Porsche forums you will see that to get the sound right without gutting out the whole system (which I did in my old Acura) is that you will have to bypass the factory amp or get a signal processor, another amp and whole new speakers.
If you just plug in a new component set without getting a clean unprocessed signal, you may not like the sound. Also 6 1/2 components are not direct bolt on, so you will need to modify the opening or get a adapter kit, which last I check Crutchfield, no body makes one.
If the point is to get better sound, then why half *** it? The stock sound isn't great, but it is better than many I have heard. Everytime I think about upgrading, I think back to my Acura and that thought stops.

@cy7878 I intend on changing the amps and adding a 10" in the trunk. The initial component speakers I selected were kenwood and they didn't get good reviews, therefore I opted to get more outside help on which particular brands produce quality sound on a budget. So far all heads turn to a pair of Alpine which were actually better priced components. As far as the sub I'm still undecided. The Amp I'm sticking with the kenwood because of sheer size and capability, I intend on placing it in the same location as the bose amp.

oh god, there is someone else that's addicted to Paradigm. What setup u running? I'm currently running the Studio 60's, Studio CC-590, Studio 10's for sides, and the Emotiva Ultra Sub 10(need to upgrade). In my bedroom I have two Axiom M3 v3's and Axiom VP150 center. And for my computer, two B&W 685's(I really love these, the bass on these are insane for what they are).

JL Audio makes very good component speakers. I had the TR and VR series which were not expensive for components (less than $200), I tried the XR in another car but without a proper amp and the speaker being small (5.25), sound was not very good. The ZR is overkill.
Have you also look into a signal processor like the JL Audio CleanSweep?
Anyways, I'm not sure where you are located, but there is a shop in downtown L.A. called Woofersetc.com (not affiliated) that has pretty good prices and I have bought from them before.

Not to threadjack too much, but I am using:
Studio 10 (L/R)
CC 490
REL T1 Sub.
Run by a Marantz SR 7002.
How do you like the 60s? I was thinking about dipole sides/rears, but allowed for the option of upgrade to larger speakers and moving the 10s to the rear.
Right now, I am running 3.1 I used my 5.1 budget and more on this setup, as I was originally looking at the titan/mini monitor line... I am ambivalent about the sub...it is good, but could be so much better for $1k.

I would recommend the 100's more than the 60's, there is a definite difference between the two. I bought the 60's because they were going in a small room, next time I buy speakers I'm going with the 100's. But car mods are coming first now so who knows when I'll be buying the 100's.
