My sister recently got her automatic 2008 G37 service done at a local shop. She got her transmission fluid done and the mechanic replaced the fluid with pennzoil atf 6.

Is it bad to use that for a g37? It's my understanding that Infiniti only wants you to use their nissan matic. Should I tell her to replace it or would it be fine.

Its to late now! you have the 5AT. Also go by what owners guide has listed.

Only thing you can do is have the dealer flush out the system and refill.

If you own the 7AT only the dealer can service that!

FWIW... My mechanic refused to change my 5AT oil. Said I needed the Nissan spec oil since it has a code that he was not able to confirm as being similar to an OTS oil.

Transmission oil change at the dealer ran about $120 CAD. So price wise, not too bad to ensure you keep the powertrain warranty alive.

explain please TV. i'm looking to get mine done, but i wanna use my own fluid (amsoil most likely). was under the impression that only a stealership could do it.

I am not sure about the use of other fluifds, but I know for a fact that the 7AT does NOT have to go to the dealer as GT LAW said. But the shop I went to would not put anything else in but the Nissan fluid.

Go right ahead and let some shop service your 7AT. See what happens, that 7AT is sealed off from being serviced! and you will Chop your warranty up if someone other then infiniti who services this.

Only one dealer (Beshoff infiity in San Jose CA) told me that the 7 speed AT is a sealed transmission and that the
car will automatically tell me if it needs to be changed and that if it needs to be changed it is very special procedure that lasts 2-3 hours.
The other 3 dealer were "Infinity of Pleasonton", Frontier Infinity and Peninsula Infinity - an in Bay area CA

The dealer is clueless and your car will not tell you that it needs trans fluid change. The only indication you will get is when the 7AT fails and starts missing gears.

The trans does not have a oil dip stick but there are ways to change the oil. Here is the method listed in the service manual:

CAUTION:
• Use only Genuine NISSAN Matic S ATF. Never mix with other ATF.
• Using ATF other than Genuine NISSAN Matic S ATF will cause deterioration in driveability and A/T
durability, and may damage the A/T, which is not covered by the INFINITI new vehicle limited warranty.
• When filling ATF, be careful not to scatter heat generating parts such as exhaust.
1. Step 1
a. Install the O-ring (315268E000) (A) to the charging pipe
(310811EA5A) (B).
2. Step 2
a. Use CONSULT to check that the ATF temperature is 40°C (104°F) or less.
b. Lift up the vehicle.
c. Remove the drain plug from the oil pan, and then drain the ATF.
d. When the ATF starts to drip, temporarily tighten the drain plug to the oil pan.
NOTE:
Never replace drain plug and drain plug gasket with new ones yet.
e. Remove overflow plug from oil pan.

f. Install the charging pipe (A) to the overflow plug hole.
CAUTION:
Tighten the charging pipe by hand.
g. Install the bucket pump hose (B) to the charging pipe.
CAUTION:
Insert the bucket pump hose all the way to the end of the
charging pipe.
h. Fill approximately 3 liters (3-1/8 US qt, 2-5/8 lmp qt) of the ATF.
i. Remove the bucket pump hose to remove the charging pipe,
and then temporarily tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan.
CAUTION:
Quickly perform the procedure to avoid ATF leakage from
the oil pan.
j. Lift down the vehicle.
k. Start the engine and wait for approximately 3 minutes.
l. Stop the engine.
3. Step 3
a. Repeat “Step 2”.
4. Final Step
a. Use CONSULT to check that the ATF temperature is 40°C (104°F) or less.
b. Lift up the vehicle.
c. Remove the drain plug from the oil pan, and then drain the ATF.
d. When the ATF starts to drip, tighten the drain plug to the oil pan to the specified torque. Refer to TM-274,
"Exploded View".
CAUTION:
Never reuse drain plug and drain plug gasket.
e. Remove overflow plug from oil pan.
f. Install the charging pipe (A) to the overflow plug hole.
CAUTION:
Tighten the charging pipe by hand.
g. Install the bucket pump hose (B) to the charging pipe.
CAUTION:
Insert the bucket pump hose all the way to the end of the
charging pipe.
h. Fill approximately 3 liters (3-1/8 US qt, 2-5/8 lmp qt) of the ATF.
i. Remove the bucket pump hose to remove the charging pipe,
and then temporarily tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan.
CAUTION:
Quickly perform the procedure to avoid ATF leakage from

j. Lift down the vehicle.
k. Start the engine.
l. Make the ATF temperature approximately 40°C (104°F).
NOTE:
The ATF level is greatly affected by the temperature. Always check the ATF temperature on “ATF TEMP
1” of “Data Monitor” using CONSULT.
m. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake.
n. Shift the selector lever through each gear position. Leave selector lever in “P” position.
o. Lift up the vehicle when the ATF temperature reaches 40°C (104°F), and then remove the overflow plug
from the oil pan.
p. When the ATF starts to drip, tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan to the specified torque. Refer to TM-
274, "Exploded View".
CAUTION:
Never reuse overflow plug.

I personally do not like the factory suggested method. It allows too much mixing of the old fluid and new fluid. When I did the fluid change, I disconnected the trans oil cooler lines at the radiator. I drained the oil and pumped the oil through this line with the engine running. There is less mixing of fluid this way. Then I stopped the engine and pumped in extra fluid through the cooler lines. Reconnect the cooler lines. Make sure the transmission temperature is at 40C and turn on the engine. Open the fill line cap and let the extra fluid drain.

Neither of my Gs has AT, but having owned many AT Nissan vehicles I can say that my personal experience is that they seem to need the OEM Genuine Nissan ATF to run smoothly more than most cars. I don't now why this is, but they can be fickle with fluids. If it were my car, I wouldn't use aftermarket fluids, even quality ones.
