Required tools:

$4 bottle of Goo-Gone
some paper or MF towels
your hands


Procedure:

soak a paper or MF towel in goo-gone, and apply to the plasti dip. let it sit for 5-10 mins. re-apply as necessary and keep it wet.
be very careful not to get it on other plasti-dip items you do not want to remove, as if you accidentally touch it, it may peel (found this out the hard way)
start at a corner and begin peeling. it should come off much easier than before.
wash off the excess goo-gone and your done


btw if you do have some overspray on your car, googone will get rid of it in 2 seconds


The Story:

i know plastidip isnt all too hard to remove by itself, but sometimes there are tricky spots. this will make your life 1000x easier all around
well i found this out the hard way by mistake, but it will be very helpful in the future when i have to re-do my wheels.
i have plastidipped my grill, wheels, rear emblems, and rear deck spoiler. i wanted to de-badge my rear infiniti letters and tried to remove the plasti dip beforehand. i couldnt get it off. so i went ahead with the debadge anyways.

i debadged my infiniti letters using some Goo-Gone (and the DIY in here). i was worried that it would dissolve the plasti-dip and make a mess, but it didnt!
after the goo-gone had sat for about 10 mins, the plastidip became soft and extremely easy to remove.

Yep this works. I was using Bug and Tar remover, which is similar to goo gone, trying to get some bugs off my plastidipped grille and it took off some of the plastidip.

i have a sh!tload of tar on my car, might try the goo gone since you mentioned. didnt think of it.

you mentioned that plasti dip attracts dirt big time on your wheels, how hard are they to remove?

not sure what "they" you are referring to

yes the wheels are very hard to clean with plastidip if you let them go for too long (winter). i havent found a good solution to cleaning them yet. its probably brake dust not just dirt. all the other plastidip on my car looks like it did day 1. armourall cleansing wipes has helped a bit but wouldnt get it all out. i think its because the plastic is a porous and sucks in the dirt/brake dust

a solution would be much appreciated!

I bought a can of plastidip to try out, the painted surface is rubbery and rough, I can tell how it attracts dirt big time And by using strong cleaning detergents might melt the plastidip right off just how you did with goo gone.

the goo gone didnt melt the plastidip off, just moistened it and made it much easier to remove. im going to a big car meet today so il do some experimenting thismorning with cleaning beforehand.

when applying the goo gone, dab the surface, dont rub it. if you rub it may peel in a place you dont want to start.

something worthwhile mention while you guys are talking about plastidip.

i plastidipped my spoiler and covered it with rattlecan clear coat. came out to be satin-ish black (versus matte from jsut plain o plastidip). pretty nice, id say. didnt come out to ANYthing like what the other member got on this forum who suggested not to clearcoat over plastidip.
how did i do it? after plastidip, light coat of clear. wait 30-hr to dry. wet-sand with 1000grit. repeat with 1500grit, and 2000 grit if desired. I did 2 1000grit sessions, 2 1500grit sessions, and 1 2000grit session (2000 is prolly unnecessary imo).

you can get this purple spray off of dipyourcar.com or get that purple spray brake dust cleaner. Just spray it on all over wait 5-10 min and then just run a hose or pressure washer over the plasti dipped rims works perfectly i just re plasti dipped mine yesterday white so it comes in handy big time!
