How well does the backup camera work?

We had an 09 FX35 as a rental last week in Las Vegas. It had te backup camera which I've never used before. It seemed like a good idea but we neer really got a good sense of how close we really were to things and were still sure we were going to hit stuff. So how is it after you actually know what you're doing with it?

the gree yellow and red lines on either side of the screen that curve when you turn the wheel. When something is in the red you stop cuz your close enough.

It works better than most competitors that I have seen. The first day I had it, I backed into my garage and put the end the green line on the wall, then got out and looked how close I was. Then put the yellow line at the base of the wall, checked again. Put the red line at the wall and checked again. Then finally backed up until I was just touching the wall to see what it looked like on the camera. If you can calibrate those 4 points in your mind while you're using the camera, you can put your car anywhere!!!

That sounds like a good idea.

The first (closest) line is about 18 inches behind your bumper, the middle one is 3 ft., and the furthest grid line is 6 ft. I think that's right. I have practiced backing up to parking blocks and stopped with them just where they are about to disappear and my back bumper is right up to the front of them. Really handy for judging your distance from the wall backing into a garage.

It's also pretty accurate when showing the curved lines indicating your rear path with your wheels turned as they currently are. Of course it goes without saying not to trust this entirely and always check behind you when you pack up and still turn around and look.

lol dude it's a camera! what you see is what you get! It's a must for a car in this price range! I basically back up into every parking spot everytime I park.

Again it's a must have!
